This dissertation is organized in three chapters, plus an Introduction and a Conclusion. Chapter I, Hambre y miedo en la Barcelona de posguerra: Carmen Laforet, revolves around Carmen Laforets novel Nada (1945) in connection with the legislation implemented in the years following the Civil War. The legal discourse present in Carmen Martin Gaites short stories from the 1950s and her 1978 novel El cuarto de atras is the focus of Chapter II, Hogar, lugubre hogar: la narrativa de Carmen Martin Gaite. Chapter III, Viendo doble (y triple) en la Espana democratica: la narrativa de Cristina Fernandez Cubas, is devoted to Fernandez Cubas texts from the 1980s and 1990s, as well as her latest book, Parientes pobres del diablo (2006), and deals with the way in which they deconstruct the Francoist legal discourse of the previous decades.
