Sinopsis del libro
In the barren landscape left behind by German bombs during WW II, little Billy lives happily with his large Catholic family in a tenement home on the outskirts of Manchester, an area that would be considered a slum by todays standards. Determined to be the first person in his family to go to college, Billy takes all kinds of odd jobs and is constantly hatching moneymaking schemes with his friends. The entertaining and sometimes downright hilarious tone of this autobiography paints a poignant picture of a time in history that is otherwise gray and desolate. It is also a reminder that through courage and hope anything is possible.
